auto launching NVDA

text copied from my personal journal in case it might benefit someone here:
Because I’ll undoubtedly want this code for future reference, to launch nvda or any other program for that matter from a thumb drive:
[autorun]
open=autorun.exe nvdanvda.exe
action=nvda Open Program

this should be saved to a file named autorun.inf and placed in the root of the drive. To auto launch nvda from cd, omit the action line from the code. To succeed either way, I gather that one needs the autorun.exe that I downloaded from
http://www.tarma.com/index.htm#/download/index.htm
When the thumb drive option is used, nvda will be the first option presented in the standard “what should windows do with this device?” dialog we all encounter when plugging in a flash drive. So when I perform on site tech support for computers without screen readers, I can predictably plug in the thumb drive, press enter once, and be greeted with nvda’s start up sound. When auto launching nvda from a cd, I simply insert the cd and nvda starts right up.
Definitely a useful skill to have.

Thanks for this! It'll really come in handy on the job. Do you have one of those U3 drives? If so, I assume you want to disable the u3 functionality so as to get rid of one extra dialog?

Can you create an inf file for any application? That's cool.

yes, as long as you know the exact path and file name for the application you wish to auto launch

INF stands for installation file(correct me if I'm wrong)
Well, I'm stating that cause I tried to do the following:
1. I have chapters book marked on a table of contents page of .pdf files.
2. I tried to burn it on a cd with an .inf file to auto open the table contents file for a client. This way, he/she just pops in the disk and the table of contents file just pop up and he/she simply will click on the chapt of their choice.

It simply did not work, but when its a .exe file, it will. shrug

This action= line I did not know, thank you for that tid bit.

What happens if instead of just giving it the pdf name you give it the local adobe path and pass the location of the pdf as a peramitor to that?
I kno its not that universal but at least you can use things like %programfiles%.
